Set

For production designer Brian Thomson, translating a road movie to the stage was mostly about one piece of highly technical equipment - Priscilla, the bus.

A centrepiece of the film, the stage bus became a custom built AUD$1 million star of the musical. Eight metres long and weighing almost six tonnes, she sits on a ring revolve, contains a retractable side wall panel and houses three internal hydraulic lifts.

She can also shake and change colour, thanks to hundreds of LED lights implanted in the panels.

It must be really hard to be on those wire things. I hate them! They look good though.
