Best New Musical

by Priscilla

Mar.23, 2009, under Homepage

Priscilla won an incredible 4 What’s on Stage Awards on the 14th of February 2010. We won Best New Musical, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical - Oliver Thornton, Best Set Designer - Brian Thomson and Best Choreographer - Ross Coleman, which was the biggest haul of the night. Congratulations to everyone involved with the show. They are the only theatre awards chosen by the public, so thank you everyone who voted for us.

Don Gallagher stars as Bernadette and is joined by Britain’s very own adopted Aussie Jason Donovan as Tick and handsome young leading man Oliver Thornton as Adam. Helping out when things threaten to get out-of-hand is John Bowe as Bob, the mechanic.

On stage, well there’s a £1m scene-stealing bus, 500 outrageous costumes from the movie’s Oscar®-winning designers Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner and 28 of the most glamorous and talented performers the West End can muster, performing dance-floor classics including I Will Survive, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Shake Your Groove Thing, Don’t Leave Me This Way and Finally.

I went to see the show last night and I had a fabulous time. This production is spectacular, the costumes are beautiful and dazzling as is the set. The performances of the whole cast are excellent. I can thoroughly recommend this as a great night out, I was dancing in my seat, my hands hurt from clapping along with all the great tunes and I’ve never been to a show where there was such a positive and comprehensive standing ovation. Many thanks to all those involved.

Wow, wow and wow some more! Just returned home from seeing this brilliantly scripted and crafted show. The standard and quality of all involved was truly mind blowing. I had to rush home and post a comment straight away! Highly recommend that you go and experience one of the best shows ever put on in the West End!

I work as an usher at The Civic Theatre in Auckland, where we had the pleasure of staging Priscilla last year. It was absolutely the most marvellous show I have ever worked - and even after seeing it around 35 times, I never got fed up with it. Magic! Enjoy London!

Went last night 14th March.
What a great time we all had.
Great cast, set and entertainment.

Only criticism was loss of certain high views - sitting at rear (just infront of sound control) - where are the flat screens to bring those times to the rear ???

BUT would go again and sit in same place regardless

Absolutely fantastic! Atmosphere was fantastic and I could not stop laughing throughout! The well known songs were put into the show brilliantly! Well done to all the cast and hope to see it again soon!

London got a new TOP Musical!

This was the first show i have ever seen, where the entire crowed started clapping and singing after 15 minutes. So funny, so camp, so great. I just loved it and will watch it again!
Well done to all the cast, Jason Donavan was great, but Oliver Thornton was just brilliant….. Hot hot hot…. :-)

We went on a journey to ‘Fabulous’ in August 2007 and saw the original Sydney production.
4th April 2009, we took another journey to ‘Fabulous’ and were just as equally bowled over by this AMAZING musical extravaganza that has been so true to the film.
EVERYTHING about it is FABULOUS…Jason Donovan plays Tick perfectly; never a fan before but might be a convert. Tony Sheldon reprises Bernadette beautifully for the Northern Hemisphere audiences and Oliver Thornton…whatta pair of legs

Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel are pure GENIUS…

Long may she reign, Priscilla, Queen Of The Palace Theatre…

I saw the show a few weeks ago and must say, it was THE BEST!!! From the moment the show started to when the curtain fell I had a blast. The cast are amazing, the costumes fantastic, the songs make you want to dance in the aisles and I am now a little bit in love with Oliver Thornton!! Some scenes (Venus…) will stay with me for a very long time! I’m wearing my Priscilla t-shirt with pride and trying to work out when I can go again!

April 8th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

I took my son for his 21st birthday. We loved every minute! Having seen the film, I couldnt help wondering whether the stage would cause limitations. I needn’t have worried. We put the show up amomg the best we have ever seen. One ’small’ problem… the theatre seating, no good for tall people!

by alick davies

April 12th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Just returned form seeing the show, one word, BRILLIANT.
One complaint, high up in the cheap seats you couldn’t see everything due to much of the action being at the front of the stage, we found ourselves watching an empty stage fairly often which made my neice cry :(
Lesson, don’t watch it from the balcony, spend a bit more…

we went to see the show last week and one word for it AMAZING!Is it true that Priscilla is only in London for a limited period before it goes to Toronto and America or will it stay in london as well as it touring? I really hope it stays in London as wont be able to see it again until later in the year

I went to see Priscilla last night- and when it began I was slightly cautious about what it was going to be like and how it would be created. I absolutely adore musical theatre and have studied and taught it for several years and I therefore feel in a good position to say how marvellous it was! It is a visual spectacle with some brilliant ‘one-liners’, the costumes are stunning, the characters are first class and performed by first class actors/actresses. I felt in awe for the entire performance and would recommend this musical to anyone. It will make you laugh (lots), cry, empathise, think and most importantly guarantee you to have an amazing night!! WOW!!
Well done!!

by Priscilla

April 19th, 2009 at 10:43 am

Hi Chris,

You will be glad to hear that Priscilla is here to stay (well for the forseeable future). The productions that go to Toronto, the US or anywhere else will be new and separate productions. So come back and see us later in the year.

Best.

I went to see the show on wednesday 22nd and wondered could it possibly do the film justice in such a small theatre but I needn’t have worried. The absolutely best show in town. Every person leaving was so HAPPY. Never before have I seen such a full on standing ovation. Recession? Who cares!xxx

I took my mother to see Priscilla yesterday for her birthday and all i can say is WOW. Having seen most of the West End shows this has got to be the very best by far. We loved every minute of it and thought every member of the cast were absolutely AMAZING. A special mention has to go to Jason Donovan who was just outstanding. It was so good to see everyone up at the end dancing and singing along it certainly gave my mother one of the best birthday’s possible- we will definately be back to see it agin very soon!!!

I travelled from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to London just to see the show. It was worth every minute, every mile, and every dollar/peso/pound. It’s one of the best shows I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot of the big ones. My only regret is that I didn’t get to see it again while I was London. I can’t say enough about how great and over the top Priscila the Musical is. Hats off and kudos to all are part of this wonderful fabulous show

Hi

Went too see the show on Saturday, 30th May 2009. It was brilliant!!! Colourful, crazy, creative, clever and camp!!!

The music is brilliant. Even though my friends and I were sitting up in the gods with a bit of a restricted view , it didn’t stop us from enjoying the show. We donned our false eyelashes and feather boas just to get into the spirit of things.

Will certainly go back too see the show again but will make sure we get seated in the stalls.

The whole cast were brilliant but Oliver Thornton as Felicia stole the show for me.

You have to go and see it!!!!!!

Went to see the matinee last Thursday after having already seen it in previews
and it was just as fabulous the 2nd time around. The audience was a bit quieter but everyone still gave a standing ovation at the end. My favourite is definately Oliver Thornton who stole the show for me.

G’day over there,

I want to buy a couple of tickets to a Saturday night performance as a present for my sister’s birthday.
Having bought tickets over here (Sydney) on line, when I arrived at the venue I was asked for my credit card as proof of identity. Obviously if my sister collects them she will not be able to do this… So my question is what form of identity will be acceptable for picking up tickets on the evening of performance?
Thank you for your show - it’s a ripper,

Ash

Myself and my partner Justin went to see the show way back in Nov 2006 in Sydney (we were on our honeymoon) after already seeing the movie and loving it. We weren’t sure we would enjoy it on stage, HOW WRONG WE WERE. It was absolutely fantastic, and raved about it when we returned home to the UK.
We hoped it would make its way to London, and here she is. We cant wait to see it again and are arranging a group of us to go and see it in september.

On Saturday 17th July I saw Priscilla for a second time. I took along my 77 year old Gran who LOVED it. What a fantastic show. As I have seen the show before I knew something was wrong with the bus. But the cast coped so well and it added an extra edge of ‘danger’ to the performance. It was a great show and it must feel great to get the standing ovation at the end. Well deserved. I think I am hooked. I want to book up and see it again. Congratulations on a fantabulosa show darlings. Hugs and lots sloppy kisses xoxoxox

Hi Priscilla,

I know you have said there ae no plans for a london recording CD, but if enough Priscilla fans wanted it would you reconsider, it would be very popular???
Also what would be the chances of it ever making it to DVD, reckon that would go down a storm as well with all Priscilla fans, then we could watch the DVD in between all the many times we keep coming back to see the live show, it would be ‘Fabulous’

fingers crossed, from Laura….xxxxx

Third time tonight (5/2/10)and it just gets better every time (fourth visit booked!!!). Great view from Row C. Great chemistry between the lead actors, fantastic music and awesome costumes AND THEN there’s Priscilla herself!! Reckon Oliver is pretty fearless and has a great head for heights. Tony brings a great deal of warmth and believability to the part of Bernadette as well as the fabulous comic timing shared by all of the leads! Good luck with the Whats on Stage Awards - you really deserve to win the lot!

An amazing show this afternoon, Jason, Oliver and Tony … and everyone else in the cast too - just fantabulous!

Front row seats were great (not so sure abt the crazy lady who sat next to me tho!)

We will defintately be coming back to see the show again, and will be bringing more friends, so they can share in the mesmirising experience!

(ahem Oliver’s legs in particular caused a bit of a stir for us girls )

Awards a’plenty - this show and its cast deserve them! xx

Well done on the awards. I am a regular (25) visits to the show. I enjoyed the awards last night and of course the highlight was the Priscilla finale.

My visit to the Matinee today will be the last with the original London cast, also my 28 visit. Thank you so very much for bringing the West End alive with this fantastic show. I would like to wish all of you who are leaving the very best and to those of you who will remain keep up the great job you are doing. All new cast members, welcome, you have some hard acts to follow. Tony Sheldon you are a true star. Bon Voyage!! xxx
