Mirvish Productions
David Mirvish is an internationally-known art collector and theatre producer. He owns and operates the Royal Alexandra, Princess of Wales, Canon and Panasonic Theatres in Toronto, Ontario, and is former owner of London’s Old Vic.
Mirvish Productions, a company originally formed by David Mirvish in 1987 to manage Toronto’s historic Royal Alexandra Theatre, has grown into Canada’s leading commercial theatre production company. Mirvish Productions has produced, co-produced and many memorable plays and musicals, including the Canadian stagings of Les Misérables (Toronto, Canadian tour and Montreal bilingual company), Miss Saigon, The Who’s Tommy, Mamma Mia! (North American premiere), Mel Brooks’s The Producers, Hairspray, We Will Rock You, the North American premiere of Dirty Dancing and, with Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian, the current The Sound of Music.
In his upcoming 2009-10 Toronto season, he is presenting the North American premiere of Priscilla Queen of the Desert as part of a popular seven-show subscription season.
He is a recipient of the Order of Canada, the Order of Ontario and the Brenda Donohue Award for outstanding contribution to Toronto theatre. In 1998
David Mirvish was honoured, with his father, the late Ed Mirvish, with a special Olivier Award for contributions to London theatre.
