Nick Hardcastle – Promotions Co-ordinator

by Priscilla

Nov.29, 2010, under Producer's Blog

We have a Priscilla promotions team that are separate to the cast and go out and promote Priscilla. We do promotional performances at trade events, big shows and parties. It’s also about new initiative based marketing, where we create experiences for people that are extensions of the experiences they would get at the show. We are now creating Priscilla Parties - pre-show parties, special events and themed nights. My focus at the moment is developing those and then rolling them out.

La Traviata

La Traviata

I originally got involved in Priscilla in June 2006, when I joined the original Australian cast. I did the second workshop at the Melbourne Theatre Company in the role of Felicia. In fact I played every role in the workshop apart from Tick and Bernadette. It was great to be a part of creating something new, Australian and exciting. I joined the cast as a member of the ensemble and understudy for Felicia and within 3 weeks, I was playing the role for 6 months. I then became the alternate in the role of Felicia for the rest of the Australian run.

What drew me to Priscilla was the thrill of being in something new and exciting. I was a massive fan of the film, which came out in 1994, my last year in high school. So the film soundtrack was also the soundtrack to us going out, partying and growing up. All those 70 disco hits were being played at nightclubs and parties.

I started in the industry when I was very young. I’ve done a lot of theatre and television including drama series and soaps. I was in Home and Away for a year with Ray Meagher “Alf”, who is now playing “Bob” in Priscilla. In fact my first day filming on Home and Away was a scene in the Summer Bay diner with Ray, when my boat had been wrecked in a storm as I was smuggling illegal immigrants. I then became Alf’s star rugby player in the show as well as Sally’s first serious boyfriend. I also got to punch out Heath Ledger in the surf club, which is a bit of a claim to fame. After Home and Away I did a lot of TV presenting and radio shows and I’ve released a couple of Albums.

Priscilla is a show for everybody, because at its heart it is all about acceptance. It’s a show about friendship, identity and love. Added to that it is a hell of a lot of fun with songs that everyone knows and loves. I challenge anyone to see the show and not have fun. If they can’t leave Priscilla full of joy they must be dead!
