Katie Jewsbury was crowned our No.1 Fan at an awards night hosted by Ray Meagher. Here she describes the No.1 Fan Award experience.

“How do I show I’m Priscilla’s No 1 Fan? Time to get creative! My entry to the competition was a huge mosaic poster I created using every Priscilla related photo I’ve ever taken, that’s over 300 photos from trips to the Stage Door and photos of my own Priscilla inspired creations. 3 days later my poster was complete. I emailed it off and kept my fingers crossed!

On Tuesday 11th October I went to the Priscilla No 1 Fan Pre-Show Awards Party at Ku Bar. Vicky Vivacious was a fantastic hostess - lots of fun, a quiz and even cupcakes! Here I was announced as the winner of Priscilla’s No1 Fan Competition - wow! Me? I couldn’t believe it! I was absolutely thrilled.

Ray Meagher was the special guest at the party and he presented me with my prizes – the most fantastic signed poster from the cast, tickets for that nights show, CD’s and of course a backstage tour! Everyone was incredibly complimentary about my entry, which made me burst with pride.

Off to the theatre next to see the show. The first half of the show went so quick, like a blur because I knew what was coming next! I was persuaded to do the Country Boy routine on stage. I was fairly reluctant but I thought I couldn’t miss this opportunity so off I went and danced around the stage. It’s funny how co-ordination and any notion of left and right goes out of the window when you’re up there but it was great fun!

The end of the show and it was time to go backstage. After some photos with the cast, I chatted to Oliver and Richard about my poster - they seemed to love it, which was wonderful to hear. A backstage tour of the Palace theatre – what a treat! I saw all the costumes, the sets and learnt about how it all worked, it was fantastic. To top it all off, I was able to try on Hugo’s hat from the funeral scene! What a way to end the evening!

I think my highlight had to be the backstage tour, there are so many things that go in to making the show work – it’s incredible! It was truly the most magical evening ever and so incredibly special, an experience I will never forget and a title I will treasure forever. Thank you to everyone who made it so fantastic!

For me Priscilla is two hours of pure escapism, it lifts you when you’re feeling down and it leaves you smiling for days after!”
