Ian Oswald – Ensemble

I’m part of the ensemble, which means that I am one of the background characters that you see on stage in the big numbers. I’m a cupcake, a paintbrush, a punk, a les girl, and I’m Jules in the casino. My favourite two roles are being a cupcake in MacArthur Park because of the music and being Jules in the Casio, because I get to be so camp. I’d have to say that my least favourite role is probably Les Girls.
When I first auditioned for Priscilla there was no role for them to put me into, because it depended on which of that current cast stayed or left, so they put me on the promo team to see how I would go in that. When the next year came around a handful of us from the promo team came into the show, myself, Lucinda Shaw and Steven Grace. Priscilla is quite a relaxed audition process compared to some of the other shows in town.

Ian Oswald
I’ve previously worked on Boogie Nights 2, Starlight Express, Dance of the Vampires, Michael Flatley’s Celtic Tiger and Strictly Ballroom. I have done a wide variety of things from cabaret to musical theatre. I think Priscilla is one of the most fun shows in town and to me it seems like a lot of the shows are quite serious at the moment. I love that we get paid to go out there and have fun.
I’m a wolf child, so one of the hardest things for me is the hair removal and trying to make me look like a girl. Occasionally we have slight accidents like I did the other night. In the funeral scene I wear the big skirt with the bum out and the crow on top of the head. Sometimes the revolve isn’t always flush and during the scene I caught the hoop of my dress on part of it. I then stepped onto the hoop, which catapulted me forward along the stage on my knees and the crow fell down over my head. I looked around for someone to help me and the only person I could see was Lucy Newton, who was absolutely wetting herself laughing. There are other things that happen backstage, but I don’t think I should tell you about them.
You should all come and see Priscilla, because you can come to the show in any mood and you will always leave happy and tapping your toes. It has a bit of everything; romance, campness, glitter, great songs and a lot of heart.

Ian!
Been to see it twice, once with Diane and once on my own, It’s my all time favourite musical, film and soundtrack.
Would love to see it one more time and will have to make arrangements for us both to come down again.
We usually come for the matinee as it’s easier for us to get home again after the show.
We are sitting here trying to remember the show we first seen you in, in Blackpool? The magic show, maybe 10yrs ago.
Anyway, good luck in all you do and if we can catch you onstage we will wave and shout hello!
Take care and love to all the cast.
Ian & Diane Wall (Leasowe) xx
