Graham Vick – Ensemble and 2nd Cover Bob & Bernadette

by Priscilla

Nov.04, 2011, under Blog

I haven’t had a chance to play either Bob or Bernadette yet, but I’m in the heels, I’ve done the lashes and I’m ready to go. I would love to play either, but I think from an age perspective it would be more believable for me to play Bernadette. With Bernadette you also have the wigs and dresses and who wouldn’t want the last bow of the show?

I think I had it easier in the audition process, because I am one of the older guys covering the older characters and it was less stressful for me as I only really had one day of auditions. It was several hours in which I had to, sing a number of times, read a few roles and dance, but we didn’t dance with the 20 year olds. It was probably no less difficult than for the younger characters, but it was quicker all being done in one day.

I love any show I’ve worked on and Priscilla is no different. My whole ethos as an actor is to learn. Most of us have abilities or talents that could be put to other uses, but for me I do it because I love to learn. Each year I have a new job, and it’s something new to learn and rehearse. I haven’t been lucky enough to get on for either of the principal roles and we are close to the end now, so it is unlikely that I will get to go on. But that doesn’t bother me at all, because I’ve still learnt how to be a sexy woman. Ironically the hardest part is walking really slowly and elegantly, the fast bit is easy.

I’m Canadian and I was born and raised outside of Toronto. I did a number of things there, but I’ve now lived in the UK for 11 years. I did two years of repertory theatre, which included a season at the globe. I’ve also worked in Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, a show called, The Far Pavilions, and nearly a year long tour with the Reduced Shakespeare Company. I’ve tried to do a lot of varied things in my career.

My favourite part of Priscilla is Shirley. She is such a horrible and disgusting person and our Liz Ewing is wonderful at portraying that and I find it very funny. I also love the Poseidon Adventure at the end, when the audience gets to see a fast glimpse of their show at Alice Springs. I think it’s very inventive. When you do a show like Priscilla, which is from a very successful movie, there is enough that is familiar for people to identify with and remember even when they think they’ve forgotten it.

At Priscilla we get a wonderful opportunity to take people away to somewhere else for a couple of hours of their life. If your everyday life is a pain, if things are tough, but you have few pounds in your pocket and you just want to smile, you’d be crazy not to come and see Priscilla.
