Tim English - Ensemble & 1st cover Bob

by Priscilla

Jun.27, 2011, under Cast Blog

I love playing Bob. He is the sensible sane heart of the play. He has a kind spirit and is such a welcoming open person. Bob is great to play, but when I’m lucky enough to play him I still miss my own track. I miss dancing around in my silver trousers to Go West and I really enjoy seeing the audience join us on stage for Country Boy. I’m lucky to have the best of both worlds and to play them both.

I came to Priscilla just by chance with my niece and a friend for her birthday and we sat right at the top in the Balcony and had the best night. I thought that it looked like such a fun way to spend your evening. It’s a great job as I’m being paid to do what I’d love to do anyway and I’m old enough to remember when all these disco classics were hits.

I’ve done quite lot of musical theatre. The last big show I did was Mamma Mia. I played Harry on the International tour, which was great, as I love travelling. I’ve been in Me and My Girl, Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat, Elvis the Musical, Always, The Canterville Ghost and a few songs from the shows evenings and recently I’ve also been doing a lot of commercials. I seem to becoming a specialist at advertising things with initials, as well as being the first face of Postal Gold and AOL Computer Checkup. In fact you can see me laughing on a sofa before each episode of Neighbours at the moment and soon I’ll be in every Halifax bank. I also perfom at corporate events as part of The Three Waiters and have sung to the crowd on the pitch before several rugby matches.

I look forward to coming to work everyday, because the company are so delightful. The atmosphere backstage is wonderful. The songs and the dance numbers are such fun to perform. Last night the theatre was completely full of people absolutely loving the show and by the time you get to the finale you have over a thousand people on their feet dancing with you.

Heels are a challenging part of Priscilla. I only wear them for the finale, for the rest of the time I’m lucky enough to be in boots. One of the main challenges with live theatre, particularly with intricately choreographed shows with high energy like this one, is maintaining the performance level eight times a week. You have to remember that even though you’ve done it hundreds of times, some people are watching it for the first time.

Go West is my favourite. I love the song. The audience smile so much and it’s the first time the bus is revealed, which always gets a round of applause. And on top of all that the cannons fire the flitter onto the stage and audience.

Come and see us in Priscilla and you will have the best night of live theatre there is in the West End. It is just a blast from start to finish. When I came to see it I cried and I laughed. It has the full range of emotions. It is just fantastic fun.
