Matthew Cole - Swing/1st cover Felicia/Adam

I have loved playing Felicia. I enjoy it more now that I’ve played the role a number of times, because you can get into the part and make it your own. It’s very hard in the beginning because you are just copying what someone else does. If you have a week long run at it, you develop your own touches and relationships with the other actors on stage and you feel like you own it. It is a really hard track though, hats off to Oliver who has to do it everyday. If Oliver is sick for a day then it is much harder to jump into it quickly and get your mindset right. I’ll get told at about 3:30pm, or if it is a matinee 10:30am that I’m going on as Felicia. It’s not only the mental preparation that you have to do, but also things like making sure that your legs are shaved, your chest hair is waxed, which can take an hour or so. My favourite parts of that role are the Aria part on top of the bus and the Hot Stuff section, because it is fun.

Matthew Cole
My first job was Saturday Night Fever. I have also been in Beauty and the Beast, Strictly Ballroom, Cats, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Rocky Horror Show, resident director and choreographer on Never Forget and Zorro.
It’s interesting to go from being a resident director and a choreographer to back performing in a show. I’m actually a lot more silent in my opinions to things. Before if there were politics within the production, I would be one of the first ones to stick my hand up and say my piece, but now I don’t. That’s because having done those jobs I know there are many reasons why things are done the way they are. I tend to be more placid.
The appeal of Priscilla is it’s a fun show. It’s hard work, but a laugh most of the time with a good bunch of people. It is a good night out that lifts people’s spirits. If you are looking for fun with great songs, we’re the show to see.

I see form the new cast list that Matthew appears to have left which is a great shame. He absolutely shone on stage and I loved his Felicia too. Can you tell me what his next project is?
