Graham Weaver – Ensemble & 2nd cover Felicia

I haven’t had the chance to play Felicia yet and I can’t wait to have a go. With the second cover it is mainly down to luck when you will play the role. Callum, who is first cover, will have more idea as he knows when he’ll be covering for Oliver’s holiday. I’ve been in a situation where I’ve been a first cover a couple of times, but whoever has been playing the role, either Oliver or Callum hasn’t gone off. I will probably get the call when I least expect and they will suddenly go, “your on”.

They do audition for the covers, but for me it was in the final audition when they gave me some script and asked me to come back in and read it. It was a long audition process, but enjoyable. A major production show like Priscilla is always fun to do. The last big show I did was Chicago, which is very minimal and I had only one costume to wear. I played a woman in Chicago, but apart from the drag nature of that role, the shows are polar opposites. Priscilla is unrelenting and unashamedly fun and camp. It’s a completely different type of job, which is one of the appeals of being an actor.
As well as Chicago, I was in Oliver as a child. I’ve also done various plays around London at The Gatehouse and The Union. I’ve worked extensively with the NYMT, as well as an international tour of a show and pantomime. My favourite number is Downtown. It’s a really strong punchy opening number and it’s not what people expect at the start of the show. I also really like the cupcakes. The finale is also amazing, because even if you are tired it perks you up and you leave the theatre on a high.
It is amazing to see the reaction that we get every single night. The joy you see on people’s faces is incredible. Without fail you will have an amazing night. It still surprises me how much of a good time everyone has and how everyone is up on their feet by the end. There is nothing like Priscilla in the West End.
