Ask Richard Grieve - Tick - 3

by Priscilla

May.05, 2011, under Cast Blog

We asked you for your questions for Richard. Here are the last set of them and his answers!

What is the funniest thing that has happened in Priscilla since you started?

I guess a lady coming up to me at stage door afterwards and saying, “There were a few hiccups tonight weren’t there? We really felt for you. Can we have a picture?” That made me giggle. Something pretty hilarious either happens onstage or backstage nearly every show, but it would be ruining it a bit to tell.

Was it because you were Australian that you wanted to be in Priscilla?

Not particularly. It just happens to be a coincidence. If anything I’m a British citizen and I’ve lived here for eight years and one of the things that I’ve been thankful for is that I’ve been able to play roles that weren’t specifically Australian. I haven’t just been pigeon holed as an Aussie. Having said that it’s great to be able to fit into a role so nicely.

How does Priscilla compare to Neighbours, Home and Away and Emmerdale?

Priscilla is theatre and it’s a completely different animal to working with cameras. It’s nice to vary it up between the two. I would hate to think that I would spend the rest of my career only doing theatre, but having said that theatre is my first love. When I was a kid and I wanted to be an actor I was always picturing myself on a stage instead of in front of a camera. As with anything though it depends on the piece.

What are the other cast members like to work with?

Lovely. It’s been really quite touching. Oliver has been playing the role for over two years now, Don just over a year and with me coming in to the show, it was initially quite daunting in the fact that they weren’t new too. Before I met them I was worried that they might be quite impatient as they were performing at night and rehearsing with me in the day, but they were always such gentlemen about it. A couple of times on stage there have been a costume or prop malfunction and by the time I’ve clocked it they’ve both helped me out. I have found there support quite touching. It’s kind of like in the show, the three characters are great friends who love and help each other out, and off stage it’s been like that too. Everyone in the cast has been incredibly supportive.
