Sophie Childs – Assistant Stage Manager

We look after the props and make sure that everyone is in the right place at the right time. In Priscilla we also run a wing each, mainly to make sure with health and safety everyone’s ok, because there is so much going on in such a small backstage area. As shows go Priscilla is a complicated show to run. There’s a lot of automation in this show and therefore a bigger potential for things to go wrong, but it makes it more exciting.
There’s no quiet bit in the show, Act Two is probably a bit quieter than Act One, but when anything does occur it is never at the same point twice. So there is always something new to deal with.

Les Girls Staircase
I’ve previously worked on Hair the musical. I did stage electrics at Billy Elliot and then later went back to do stage management there. I have also worked on Fame and other regional pieces, as well as Opera in Leicester.
I went to college to get into the industry, but not everyone does. The easiest way to get into theatre is to come in and cover people on holidays and sick days and then hopefully you get to know the right people. It is about who you know and the contacts you can make. So send CV’s to the shows and then cross your fingers.
I love Colour My World it is a lovely extravagant feel good song. It’s such a happy show and it is so exciting the whole way through. When I first saw it I was never bored, usually there’s a five minute patch where you start to lose interest in something, but never with Priscilla.
