Jack Ngona – Stage Door Keeper

I have worked as a Stage Door Keeper for 6 years, but I’ve worked at the Palace Theatre for 13 years. I was a front of house supervisor originally and when the position of stage door keeper came up I applied for it, and luckily got it.

Jack Ngona
The stage door is the entry point to the theatre for everyone except the public. All the deliveries and people entering the theatre come through us and have to be signed in. Our main job is to look after the cast and crew. We hold all the keys for the cast’s rooms and when they come in we sign them into the theatre and give them their keys. We are responsible for passing on their post and messages. Often members of the public will leave things at stage door for the actors.
I have worked in theatre for a long time now. I started at the Gielgud theatre in 1990, before working at the Queens Theatre and then the Lyric, before finally moving to the Palace. I have loved my time in this industry. It is a good career, which I would recommend to anyone who has an interest in theatre. You get to meet a lot of interesting people and a few celebrities along the way. The best way to get into it is to drop in a CV and hope that someone takes you on.
Priscilla is a fantastic show. The songs are great. My favourite song is Boogie Wonderland. It is so upbeat and fun. The costumes are amazing and I haven’t seen anything else like them during my time in theatre. Priscilla is a great show to work on, as the cast and crew are always smiling and fun to be around. It’s a fascinating show and everyone should come and see it.
